PARTNERS

Since 2007, our nonprofit partners, PaY Grantees, and friends in philanthropy have provided countless opportunities for students and community members to learn about our area’s greatest needs and the organizations working tirelessly to address them. They have guided, mentored, and ignited a lifetime philanthropic spirit in so many and we are grateful.

Non-Profit Best Practices

Maintaining good internal controls and adhering to industry best practices is important to protect your organization’s finances, reputation, and legal standing.  If you are just getting started thinking about non-profit best practices or aiming to build upon your knowledge, a few examples of questions to ask about your organization are as follows:

  • Does your organization have at least three board members?

  • Does your non-profit have its own separate bank account set up in the name of the non-profit?

  • Is your non-profit familiar with the professional standards, such as the Association of Fundraising Professionals’ Code of Ethical Principles and Standards of Professional Practices?

  • Does your organization hold financial management training for key staff and new board members?

These are a few examples of best practices and education opportunities to increase awareness and should not be construed as legal advice.

Additional Resources: Are your staff and board familiar with the Principles & Practices for Nonprofit Excellence?   These resources provide more detailed information on nonprofit excellence and best practices and the links can be found here for both MN and ND nonprofits.
